Designing Calm at Myrtle Beach Convention Center
At the Myrtle Beach Convention Center (MBCC), inclusion has taken on a thoughtful new form with the opening of the Serenity Spectrum Space. This welcoming environment offers attendees a calm place to rest and recharge away from the pace of the convention floor. It is the first space of its kind in an East Coast convention center and reflects a growing understanding that true hospitality means creating spaces where everyone can participate and feel supported.
Walking into the space, you’ll notice soft lighting, quiet corners, and carefully selected furnishings meant to soothe. Visitors can select from different soundscapes, explore sensory kits and noise-reduction tools, and settle into an atmosphere crafted for rest. “It’s about being able to have a quiet moment to gather your thoughts and refresh,” said MBCC Sales and Marketing Administrator Tiffany Andrews.
For meeting planners, this matters more than it might seem. Conferences can be high-energy and overstimulating environments filled with bright lights, background noise, and constant interaction. Having a quiet, restorative place to retreat can make a world of difference for neurodivergent attendees and for anyone who simply needs a break to refocus.
Neurodiversity is the recognition that no two brains work the same way. People process sights, sounds, and emotions differently, and these natural differences influence how they experience large gatherings. Designing with neurodiversity in mind helps ensure that every participant can engage fully and feel supported.
Spaces like the Serenity Spectrum Room reflect a shift in how the events industry defines hospitality. They signal that every attendee is valued, seen, and welcome. For planners, choosing venues that prioritize accessibility and well-being is a meaningful way to extend care to everyone who walks through the door.
At MBCC, that care is tangible. The Serenity Spectrum Space stands as a model for what thoughtful design can look like when it’s guided by empathy and a commitment to serve every guest.
